Westfield Service League Announces New Board, Seeks Volunteers
(9/25/2023) The Westfield Service League has officially announced its new Executive Board for the 2023-24 season. Susan McClelland and Karen Salemme will serve as co-presidents; Rosann LiVolsi as vice president; Lillian Louie, treasurer; and Laura Byron, secretary. The positions are two-year terms.
“Our shops are full and business has been booming. We would like to remind our customers, that although we sell beautiful and designer merchandise, we are a nonprofit agency and all proceeds are distributed through grants to local charitable organizations,” said Salemme. “We wholeheartedly thank our shoppers for their support.”
The money raised from the sale of the goods goes to local non-profit organizations, including the Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey, Moms Helping Moms, Caring Contact, Roots and Wings, and St. Joseph’s Social Services Center. Last year, the League was able to donate $70,000 to 29 organizations, bringing its total donations since its inception to almost $3 million.
"As treasurer, I love writing those checks every year for our Grants Committee to give to the agencies in need for their projects,” added Louie.
“If any community member is looking for a great way to volunteer their time, look no further. We would love for you to join our caring community of volunteers who run all aspects of our shops. Come on in and we’ll show you around and answer your questions,” said McClelland.
LiVolsi added: "I’ve been part of the WSL for over 22 years. Being part of this non-profit organization has been an amazing, rewarding experience. Not only do we work hard for well-deserving charitable organizations, but we have a great time doing it. I’ve been blessed to become a part of a family of over a hundred dedicated women. It is truly my home away from home."
Besides working in either the thrift or consignment shops, members serve on special committees, such as holiday sale, grants, personnel, house, food pantry, mobile meals and more. There are also many other social activities, such as “happy hour” at local restaurants, book club, field trips to area attractions and craft or learning sessions. The League is active and the stores are open from September to June. Membership meetings are held once a month.
The shop is located at 114 Elmer Street in Westfield and is open Tuesday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm. For more information about donations or volunteering, call 908-233-2530 for the Thrift Shop or 908-232-1223 for the Consignment Shop.
The League has been serving the community since 1932. For more information about shopping see our Weekly News. More information is available for the following: consigning, donating or volunteering.

A brief history of WSL
For 89 years, the Westfield Service League has served Westfield and Union County as a service organization and resale shop.
We offer a mix of new and gently used clothing for sale in Consignment and Thrift. The proceeds from the shops help us help others by awarding grants to other Westfield and Union County nonprofit and service organizations.
We like to say we put used goods to good work.

Donate with dignity
If, like us, you dream of your closet or your children's closet looking like the one above, where you can actually see what you own, and you've spent your time at home cleaning your closet, please consider dropping off your donations in Thrift. We are seeking items that you would give to your BFF. If you wouldn't give it to someone you love, please don't give it to us. Visit our Thrift Donation FAQs page for more information on how to donate.
Want to earn a little extra cash? Consign with us!
If you hate to part with something that is still in excellent shape but you know you're never going to wear and could use a little post-holiday cash, consider consigning with our Consignment Shop. To find out how, visit our Consignment FAQs page.
